NeMA diploma theses, part-time studies.
Diploma studios in part-time studies are chosen by students in the 2nd semester. Along with the choice of the studio, students make a choice of the main promoter. At the beginning of the 3rd semester, the choice of both the studio and the promoter can be changed. At that time, the other thesis supervisor are chosen - the technical supervisor , who is responsible for the artistry part together with the main supervisor , and the theoretical thesis supervisor .
Available ateliers and their instructors are presented below. Students choose 1 of the 4 studios, while deciding on the scope of specialization.
area Visualization
The Graphic Design Studio is an atelier whose area training covers graphic design and related fields in a broad sense. Projects carried out in the studio include the development of corporate identity, infographics, dynamic data visualization, publication design (paper and digital), typography, web interface design and games for mobile platforms. The program involves the creation of complex projects using 2D and 3D, static and dynamic, created using the latest technologies, with engineering support.
Presented by: dr hab. Małgorzata Bałdyga; Dr. Magdalena Zdražil
The studio offers a variety of art, design and multimedia projects. Students have the opportunity to choose an instructor, which allows them to tailor the creative process to their individual needs and interests.
This studio can be used to realize a series of posters, graphics, pictograms, advertising accidence, visual identities, sign books, packaging, as well as films, performances, sound or space installations, and all other forms of artistic expression. The most important aspect of their essence is social, cultural and psychological rootedness. The expression of the realization can be in a social, artistic context or exist in public space. The works may have the hallmarks of social interventions. It can be a work with a selected group, as well as a personal statement on a pressing issue (for example: a utility film, a series of intervention posters, a film documenting an artistic action, a performance in a public place and others). The studio can also be used for complete projects of art books, traditional books, albums with multimedia elements, as well as innovative, creative projects that go beyond the patterns - created within the framework of the so-called alternative design.
The goal of the studio is to continuously develop artistic sensitivity, narrative skills and a creative approach to the chosen medium. This enables the creation of projects of high artistic value that can exist in both social contexts and public spaces. Thanks to the versatility of female lecturers, students have access to a variety of working methods that support their individual artistic development.
The program provides the basis for building the plastic consciousness necessary to undertake artistic creation. Learning about and observing phenomena in nature, interpretation from analysis to synthesis, preparing students to form artistic expressions. The educational process is based on exercises and individual corrections, as well as presentations of student works. The basis of the course are exercises in the study of figures in space, as well as outdoor and compositional tasks on assigned topics.
Moderators: prof dr hab. dr. Andrzej Kalina, dr. Antonina Konopelska, prof. dr hab. . Jacek Staszewski, prof. Piotr Smolnicki
Prof. dr hab. . Andrzej Kalina: as part of the diploma, students will realize a series of 8-10 graphics (depending on size) on any selected topic in a chosen technique: linocut, etching, serigraphy, dry needle, algraphy, digital printing, monotype, own techniques. Completed graphics will be the inspiration for the realization of the multimedia part of the diploma by making animations for graphics, website, virtual exhibition or other proposed digital solutions.
Dr. Antonina Konopelska - diplomas are based on photography and camera techniques (short film forms, use of footage/moving image/animation in a non-narrative way), spatial forms and installations.
Prof. Jacek Staszewski, Ph. dr hab. . - The diploma work in the area of fine arts carried out in the interdisciplinary studio under my supervision allows combining various artistic styles and techniques, such as graphic design (including sign design, graphic design publishing, art book), illustration, drawing, painting, video and intermedia techniques. Using a variety of media, the graduate student attempts a multifaceted exploration of the chosen topic. For example, the project may integrate painting with video art, digital graphics with manual illustration, and sound with interactive elements. Such an approach often involves exploring new boundaries in art and breaking down traditional divisions between media. The diploma project - carried out with the cooperation of a technical supervisor - can also include interactive components, involving the viewer in direct interaction with the work. In the implementation of the diploma work in the interdisciplinary studio, the creative exploration of the borderline of media and interdisciplinarity plays a key role, which enables a deeper understanding and presentation of the subject and its artistic context. As a result, this leads to the creation of a multidimensional and innovative diploma project.
Prof. Piotr Smolnicki - diplomas are based on the implementation of their own projects in the field of design art, drawing, painting, photography, digital and alternative graphics with the use of multimedia in the broad sense in close cooperation with specialists, technical promoters. The graduate receives knowledge and skills for independent implementation of artistic projects in the field of design art, multimedia area and artistic activities in the above-mentioned areas of fine arts, creativity in the selection of tools appropriate for conducting an artistic project and workshop practice in independent implementation of the diploma project.
area Animation
The purpose of the course is to develop skills and knowledge in selected animation techniques and to use animation techniques created with modern computer tools.
Presenters: Joanna Polak, Ph.D., PJAIT professor, Michal Mazur, Ph. D., Edyta Adamczak, M.Sc.
Joanna Polak, Ph.D., Prof. PJAIT - the diplomasare based on the realization of their own projects in the broad field of the art of film animation. Diploma students choose the topics of their work themselves and, with the help of the thesis supervisor, turn them into research topics suitable for depicting by means of film animation. The most common form of the diploma is an approximately three-minute animated film etude in any traditional or/and/or computer technique realized with digital tools. Also acceptable are series or series episodes, music videos, game trailers, game elements, explainers, social campaigns, advertising campaigns, teasers, leads/headlines, animated virtual walks, etc. Other forms of diploma are graphic works/painting/illustration/book projects/tattoo designs/installations/etc., which reveal short animation forms thanks to AR technology. Just as film animation cannot be locked into a framework, this studio is open to innovative approaches to the creation of the moving image and experiments with new trends. The motto of the studio is "We don't create for the drawer!" that is, the goal is to create animations of a high artistic and technical level suitable for further application to promote the skills of the Graduates.
Dr. Michal Mazur - the realization of the diploma is a broadly defined work on digital image and sound for the creation of which the author uses software tools for 3D, 2D graphics and mixed techniques (combining photography, film, painting, mock-up, sculpture with digital painting, 3d, 2D animation embedded in a common graphic environment). Prepared 3D graphic design can be converted to an animated image, incorporated into other animation techniques, or placed directly on a rendering engine. The work can take the form of a story, visualization (which, for example, thanks to VR techniques, we can walk through), can take the form of a music video, etc. The work includes design for 3D game environments (character concepts, set design, interactive image design), short animated forms, experimental projects (using 3D generated graphics as an installation, procedural element). The goal of the diploma studio is for the diploma preparer to achieve a kind of confidence and discipline in navigating the complex environment of digital image creation tools so that by graduating the diploma student is able to independently create (design) an original valuable audiovisual message.
Edyta Adamczak, MA - the realization of the diploma is a short animated film, the diploma oscillates around 3-5 minutes. Author's theme, any technique; it can be stop-motion drawing, painting, cut-out (cut-out) technique, vector, computer 2D, 3D and mixed technique. The film is soundtracked. The thesis can also be an experimental form, a video work, an installation, a game project or any other original form using animation as a language of artistic expression.
The purpose of the course is to develop the artistic workshop and individual creative expression based on the use of the latest digital technologies, programs and environments in the field of new media. The student receives comprehensive knowledge and skills in the language of new media and the ability to build creative artistic expressions in the area of multimedia.
