Poland at World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai

The World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai - the world's largest and most important economic and promotional event - will begin on April 13, 2025. Poland's participation in the event is aimed at strengthening its international image, establishing new economic contacts and promoting Polish science, culture and tourism. The Polish Investment and Trade Agency, under the supervision of the Ministry of Development and Technology, is responsible for the project.

  • During the six months, 28 million people will visit the Expo, of which 3.5 million will be foreign visitors.
  • Expo organizers anticipate 170 participants, including 161 countries and regions and 9 international organizations.
  • The slogan for the Polish presence at the World Exhibition is: "Poland. Heritage that drives the future " - "Poland. Heritage that drives the future".
  • The most important moments for our country at the Exhibition will be the two Polish-Japanese Economic Forums, Poland Day, and the Constitution Day on May 3.

EXPO WORLD EXHIBITIONS - THE IDEA

The World Expo is the largest and most prestigious event in the world, combining economic, promotional, cultural and tourism themes. Their scale is comparable to the Olympic Games or the World Cup. Beginning with the first Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the World Expositions become the capital of the world for six months, attracting crowds of visitors - from state delegations at the highest level, to businessmen seeking new contracts, to tourists.

The World Expositions in the beginning were primarily a forum for sharing knowledge and scientific achievements. Later, they also became a place for joint debate on the challenges of the modern world, technology and development. Exhibitions are also events through which a wider audience, through direct contact with the national pavilion and organized events, has a chance to "discover" or "rediscover" a country. The opportunity to present culture, values, traditions, tourist attractions is as important for countries as economic promotion.

WORLD EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI

Osaka Prefecture will host the World Expo for the second time. The first time the Expo was held in Osaka was in 1970 under the theme "Development and Harmony for Humanity." As a country, Japan will host the Expo for the third time - in 2005 it was held in Aichi Prefecture, and the theme of the Expo was "Wisdom of Nature."

The Expo will be held from April 13 to October 13, 2025, and the artificial island of Yumeshima in the waters of Osaka Bay in the Kansai region of Osaka City has been selected as the site for the Expo. The Osaka Expo will be an opportunity to introduce the world to Japan's latest advances in the field of transportation, among other things. Flying cabs and hydrogen-powered ships, which will be used to transport tourists to the Expo site, are expected to become symbols of the Expo. All payment transactions at the Osaka Expo are to be cashless. The event will be the first ever "cashless" World Expo, which Japan will want to use to spread electronic payments.

The Exhibition's slogan is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives" - "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," emphasizes bringing nations and people together through cooperation on a global scale and across all divides for a good life and a better tomorrow for all. It also aims to motivate people to think about how they want to live and how they can maximize their potential.

The main theme will be implemented through three sub-themes relating to "Life."

  • Saving Lives - Saving Lives - protecting and preserving life, improving health care, ensuring safety through preparedness against natural disasters, harmonious coexistence between humans and the environment;
  • Empowering Lives - enriching the lives of individuals and expanding their potential, education using ICT, extending healthy life through proper exercise and diet, maximizing human potential through the use of artificial intelligence and robotics;
  • Connecting Lives with Others - Connecting Lives - involving everyone, building communities and enriching society.

At the same time, according to the concept of the Organizers, the Exhibition is intended to be the so-called "People's Living Lab of Innovation" ("People's Living Lab"), an example of "Unity in Diversity" ("Unity in Diversity"), to prompt the search for answers to the question "What is the happy way of life?". ("What is the happy way of life?").

The Expo area of 155 hectares will be divided into 3 parts: World of Pavilions, World of Water and World of Greenery, while it will be surrounded by the so-called Ring - a pedestrian bridge reaching a height of 20 meters, with a diameter of 600 meters and a length of 2,000 meters - the largest wooden structure in the world. Organizers predict that the Expo will be visited by 28 million people (mostly Japanese), including 3.5 million foreign visitors.

POLAND AT WORLD EXHIBITIONS

Poland's presence at Expo exhibitions has a history of more than 150 years. In 1867, well-known Polish companies presented themselves in Paris: Małecki's piano factory, Maksymilian Fajans' photographic atelier and Troetzer's metal tool factory. Poles were repeatedly awarded at exhibitions in Vienna (1873), Paris (1878 and 1889) and Chicago (1893). The first national pavilions began to be built during the interwar period. They showcased Poland's economic achievements, presented its history and promoted the products of our companies. In 1939, the last exhibition with Polish participation before World War II was held in New York.

Poland did not return to the Expo permanently until 1992 in Seville. Poland participated in the World Expos in Lisbon (1998), Hanover (2000), Aichi (2005), Zaragoza (2008), Shanghai (2010), Milan (2015), Astana (2017) and Dubai (2021). In Dubai, the Polish Pavilion, whose theme was "Creativity Inspired by Nature," received the Silver Medal from the Organizers for the best interior design.

Over the years, building Poland's image at Expo has consisted of numerous presentations of the Polish economy, culture and natural resources, as well as the involvement of institutional and commercial partners. Many times the country's success at the event has also been influenced by the spectacular architecture of the pavilions, directly bearing witness to Polish creativity.

POLISH PAVILION AT EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI

The arena for the country's presentation will be the Polish Pavilion with an area of nearly 1,000 m². The architecture of the pavilion represents the main slogan telling the story of the "creativity gene" of Poles and its value for the future of societies. The Polish Pavilion will be located near the Water Zone, belonging to one of the sub-themes of the Exhibition, which is "Saving Lives."

The architectural design is based on the use of wood, and has an organic form thanks to curves and arches. The form of the block is meant to evoke the association of the spreading wave of creativity and innovation of Poles - borders do not stand in the way of innovative ideas spreading far and influencing distant areas, and knowledge gained abroad returning to the gravitational center of the nation.

The design of the expressive wooden facade, built using the traditional "Kigumi Koho" wood joining technique, is a nod to Polish and Japanese traditional architecture. The pavilion is intended to be accessible to different audiences and to be free of "barriers."

A companion to the multifaceted journey through the exposition of the Polish Pavilion will bethe figure of Frederic Chopin.You will also be able to listen to the works of the outstanding Polish composer during the planned cyclical piano recitals in the Pavilion's concert hall.

A Polish-Spanish duo - Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez - is responsible for developing the architectural concept.
