A team of students from the Faculty of Information Management PJAIT part in the 4th edition of the Academic Management Championship—a nationwide competition in which participants compete in running a virtual business. This year’s edition was organized in collaboration with the Biedronka chain, and the teams’ task was to manage a store, make managerial decisions, and oversee sales, financial results, the team, and operational efficiency.

PJAIT a team consisting of Łukasz Browarski, M.Sc., Emilia Perlińska, and Maciej Stankiewicz, working under the supervision of Piotr Mazurkiewicz, Ph.D., Eng. The team’s name—LUME—was formed by combining parts of the members’ first names: Łukasz, Maciej, and Emilia.

As part of the game, participants not only analyzed financial results and made strategic business decisions, but also developed a coherent vision for how their company would operate. The students defined its mission as managing a Biedronka store in a modern, sustainable, and people-centered way. They sought to optimize processes, reduce food waste, care for the environment, and build a space for the local community. Throughout the competition, using analytical tools, including Excel spreadsheets, they monitored changes in demand, prices, advertising, and other market factors in real time, flexibly adapting their strategy to the dynamic situation. Through collaboration, data analysis, and monitoring the competition, they made sound decisions aimed at achieving the best possible results.

The competition was very challenging. A total of 383 teams from all over Poland participated, divided into 9 regions. Each region consisted of 43 teams and was further divided into smaller local markets. The PJAIT team PJAIT in Region 8, in a local market comprising 7 teams.

The WZI students achieved excellent results: they took 1st place in the local competition, 5th place in Region 8 out of 43 teams, and ultimately 29th place in the national rankings. This means they ranked among the top 8% of teams in Poland.

The Academic Management Championship is a competition open to students from various fields of study who want to see what running a business is like in practice. Through a business simulation, participants can make decisions similar to those faced by managers in real-world organizations—from team management and sales analysis to accountability for financial results.

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students and their advisor on their excellent results, and we wish them continued success!
