Manga and anime have been inspiring creators, designers, educators, and researchers around the world for years. They are much more than just a distinctive aesthetic—they are a language of storytelling, a tool for communication, and one of the most important phenomena of contemporary visual culture.

When and where?

The webinar will take place on July 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. via LinkedIn Live.

Speakers

The webinar will be led by Dr. Joanna Zakrzewska, Vice Dean of the Faculty of New Media Arts at the Gdańsk branch of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, a Japanese studies scholar, calligrapher, and illustrator; and Dr. Marta Tymińska, an assistant professor at the University of Gdańsk, a psychologist and cultural studies scholar researching digital games, manga, and the player-avatar relationship.

Why is it worth it?

By watching this webinar, you'll find out whether manga and anime are just entertainment, or perhaps also an important cultural phenomenon and a source of inspiration for professional development.

During the webinar, we'll discuss, among other things:

  • What are manga and anime, and where did their popularity come from?
  • why it is worthwhile to analyze them from the perspectives of culture, art, and science,
