TEACHING INFRASTRUCTURE

The University's management strives to eliminate equipment deficiencies of all kinds in order to ensure a level playing field for faculty personnel in competition with other units. Equipment resources are often purchased as part of equipment for the implementation of research projects, but also, those less specialized, funded by grants for the maintenance of the research base and from the University's own funds.

An important part of the Department's hardware facilities are the laboratories at the Research and Development Center PJAIT in Bytom. These include:

  • Multispectral Imaging Laboratory;
  • Multimodal Motion Lab;
  • Microexpression Lab;
  • Traffic Vision Analysis Laboratory;
  • Computer Facial Modeling Laboratory;
  • Dynamics and Multimodal Interaction Lab.

In 2010-2014, the University received the amount of PLN 3,574,939 from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as a subsidy for financing basic statutory activities, for financing own research and for the development of young scientists. In accordance with the decision of the Rector PJAIT , the University's Development Project Development Office was established, which initiates, supports and accounts for projects implemented at PJAIT. The sources of funding for the above-mentioned projects are primarily national public funds at the disposal of the NCiBR, NCN, OPI and the MNiSW itself, as well as European public funds (primarily from the ESF). In addition, support is obtained from Norwegian, Swiss and EEA funds and other external sources. Projects of a research nature are indicated in the appendix "List of ongoing research projects", and PLN 36,348,795 was transferred to the University for their implementation.

Research has a very beneficial effect on the educational process. Students can participate in them by writing a thesis on a research topic led by a supervisor. Thanks to this, there is an opportunity to shape the student's interests, which can then be continued in third-level studies. Students participate in scientific and research seminars, deliver papers at conferences. The funds obtained from the research projects of our staff significantly influence the educational process as well as the improvement of the qualifications of academic teachers. Several aspects should be mentioned here:

  1. Ability to work on modern hardware and software purchased under the project;
  2. Financing of subject modifications in accordance with current trends, with the cooperation of an experienced methodologist;
  3. Funding for refresher courses and the introduction of additional subjects into the curriculum that allow the student to get a better start in the job market and remedial courses to prepare for college;
  4. Organizing courses and training for university teachers in modern educational methods in the following areas: project-oriented learning, rapid learning, modular education, action learning;
  5. The opportunity for staff to participate in workshops on self-presentation, where competencies in effective communication with students, mobilizing and motivating a group of listeners, absorbing attention, dealing with difficult listeners are developed;
  6. Study visits to international scientific and research units for academics, during which they will learn about modern methods of interdisciplinary education in combining computer science with other fields of science.
