Philip Vermeulen's open lecture "Academy of the Senses" at PJAIT

The ceremonial inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year is behind us! On October 3, the inauguration of the academic year 2025/2026 was held at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Andrzej Dragan, PhD. Newly admitted students took the oath, thus joining our academic community.
The ceremony was opened by the Rector of PJAIT, Dr. Jerzy Pawel Nowacki, Professor of PJAIT, who welcomed all the guests gathered and the new students.
Distinguished guests enriched the ceremony with their presence:
as well as friends of the Academy, continuously supporting its activities since its inception.
The Rector of PJAIT, Dr. Jerzy Pawel Nowacki, in his speech, recalled the mission that has guided our University since its inception - to educate specialists in the field of computer technology, to conduct scientific research in the field of IT solutions, without which the modern world is not possible, and to develop cooperation between Poland and Japan.
The Minister of Education, Ms. Barbara Nowacka, then took the floor and emphasized the importance of modern technologies in education. She also stressed the importance of higher education in today's world, as an element that confirms the possession of extensive knowledge that can be used to have an impact on the world around us, which is constantly changing. His Excellency Akiro Kono stressed the importance of the Academy's history, which is now 31 years old, and how important it is to Polish-Japanese relations.
After the speeches of the guests, the official matriculation of the Academy's new students took place, presided over by Pro Rector Aldona Drabik.
Representatives of students and doctoral students also spoke. Mr. Nikolai Piolun- Noyszewski, chairman of the Student Government, appealed to students not to forget to nurture human competence in the age of artificial intelligence development. He also encouraged new students to get involved in the life of the Academy through participation in events, membership in Study Circles and volunteering.
The representative of the doctoral students, Ms. Katarzyna Kowalczyk, emphasized the importance of women as guardians of Polish folk tradition and culture, and talked about her field research documenting folk art and history. She noted that this heritage - in the face of globalization and new technologies - is becoming not only a source of inspiration, but also the foundation of modern education, art and critical reflection.
Then we listened to the keynote lecture "On combining facts", which was delivered by Prof. Dr. Andrzej Dragan.
This special event could not have taken place without the students beginning their academic journey within the walls of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. During the inauguration they proudly took the oath, symbolically joining the PJAIT community. We wish them that their time of study will become an unforgettable stage of development, full of inspiration, courage and joy. We are also happy to welcome back those who are continuing their academic journey at PJAIT, enriching our community and growing in the next stages of their education.
Let's enter the new academic year together, ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead!
