"Underwater and Above Water" is a new art installation that has been unveiled in the Wisła District. The mosaic was created in collaboration between the Wisła District andPJAIT as a thesis project by Varvara Slastsenkina and Tetiana Lundiak, students in the Department of New Media Art at PJAIT, under the supervision of Dr. Anna Barlik, Prof.PJAIT.

The official unveiling of the mosaic will take place on October 12 at 12:00 p.m. on the Vistula Boulevards.

The work consists of three interconnected walls and depicts the Vistula River from two completely different perspectives:

  • *By the Water*, by Varvara Slastsenkina, depicts contemporary life along the river—rest, socializing, and spending time together. The project subtly references Warsaw’s Socialist Realist art, but instead of work and productivity, it showcases leisure time and the changing ways in which urban space is used.
  • *Underwater*, by Tetiana Lundiak, takes us beneath the surface of the Vistula River, into a world of fish, aquatic fauna, and flora. The project also evokes a species of fish that once lived in the Vistula but is no longer found there—reminding us that the river preserves the memory of ecosystems and histories that we can no longer always see.

Both projects were developed in dialogue with the visual identity of the Wisła District and demonstrate how a thesis project can extend beyond the walls of the Academy and become part of the city.
