We invite you to the book launch by Dr. Jaśmina Wójcik, Prof.PJAIT, titled “When I Grow Up, Will I Remember What It’s Like to Be a Child?”: A CaseStudy of the Making of the Documentary Film “King Maciuś the First”(2019–2025)—a film, educational, and artistic project dedicated to the six-year process of creating the documentary film—a project combining film, education, and artistic activities.

The publication includes an original essay by the director, in which she describes the successive stages of work on the film—from securing funding and creating the initial concepts, through the development process, to production. The book is supplemented by interviews with the film’s protagonists, documentation of development workshops, and photographs illustrating the various stages of the project. It also features drawings by Jaśmina Wójcik from her “Manifesto of Empathetic Education,” as well as conceptual sketches ( storyboards) by Dr. Jakub Wróblewski, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

Event date: November 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Location: Auditorium A1, PJAIT , 86 Koszykowa St.

The promotional event will be an opportunity to discuss the process of creating the book and the film, creative exploration, and collaboration at the intersection of film, education, and art. The event will feature the book’s author and film director Jaśmina Wójcik, the book’s designer Renata Motyka, and the film’s producer Marta Dużbabel. The event will be accompanied by a screening of the film “King Maciuś the First.”

This is a story aboutcreativity understood as a process open to collaboration, experimentation, and unpredictability. The book encourages readers to find their own path in filmmaking—by building alliances, recognizing their personal aptitudes and capabilities, and, above all, being ready to improvise in the face of changes beyond our control.

He also points out that failures can become valuable lessons, and that reality—even when it deviates from initial expectations—can be far more inspiring than even the most carefully crafted plans.
