For several days now, our unit has been functioning as the Department of Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence Applications. The name directly reflects what we realistically deal with: combining computer science methods, biology and modern AI technologies in research, teaching and cooperation with the socio-economic environment.

In the Department, we are developing projects at the intersection of bioinformatics, medicine and data science - from the design of synthetic DNA tags to applications of large language models (LLM) and reinforcement learning. In parallel, we are intensively building teaching offerings.

The name change also formalizes the field of study development we have been pursuing for several years - strengthening the team with experts in bioinformatics, chemoinformatics and artificial intelligence, and opening up to interdisciplinary projects with academic, clinical and industrial partners.
