How has 2024 gone for you?

It has been a very busy time for the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology community! It abounded with successes of our students and didactics, new projects, numerous industry conferences and lots of exciting initiatives. It was a special anniversary year, during which we celebrated the 30th anniversary of our Academy. For three decades, PJAIT was made up of as many as 34804 students! This is a symbolic culmination of three decades of dynamic development, during which academy actively supported the creation of innovations, continuously improved the quality of education and built a space where science, technology and business intermingle. In 2024, we have continued this mission, resulting in an extensive list of our achievements this year.

Join us for a brief summary of what we have achieved together over the past 12 months.

SUCCESS of students, doctoral students and teachers

Achievements PJAIT in 2024 are primarily the successes of our extremely talented students, doctoral students and teachers. It is to you that the greatest congratulations are due! We also congratulate all those who graduated from PJAIT and earned their well-deserved diplomas - this year as many as 1257 people completed their educational journey at our university.

The awards and prizes that our students and doctoral students received this year are so numerous that it would be difficult to fit them into a single article. They deserve special attention not only because of the number, but also because of the variety - from prestigious art and science competitions to international hackathons and prestigious research conferences to participation in major world exhibitions. The remarkable films, visualizations and design works of our students have gained international recognition, and the sports successes of AZS PJAIT andthe Ninja e-sports team PJAIT have shown that a real passion for sports competition burns in our students!

A particular source of pride this year was the awarding of doctoral degrees to as many as 24 people who conducted their research in the fields of computer science or art. Each of these doctoral defenses was the result of years of hard work and full commitment to science and culture. Congratulations to all the new PhDs on this exceptional achievement!

It is also impossible to overlook the successes of our lecturers, who not only effectively pass on knowledge to the next generation of students, but also actively shape the contemporary scientific, artistic and design scene. Many of them have been awarded prestigious prizes in competitions such as the European Design Awards 2024 and have presented their work at exhibitions and conferences in Poland and abroad, including ATypI 2024 Brisbane in Australia, ELIA Biennale 2024 Arts Plural in Milan and Women in Tech Summit 2024, among others. Their commitment is an invaluable asset to our university. Huge congratulations to the entire PJAIT community for a year filled with impressive achievements!

UNITAR "Digital Champions" Forum

At the end of February, the culmination of the UNITAR (UN Institute for Research and Training) training program took place, as part of which refugee women from Ukraine currently living in Poland acquired digital skills. The Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, as an educational partner, was responsible for a course in graphic design basics, a course in marketing basics and self-promotion, and a course in web design in WordPress software. The results and satisfaction of the female students definitely showed that our university's involvement in humanitarian activities has great potential!

Night of the Museums in PJAIT

As every year, we opened our gates to visitors during Warsaw's Museum Night! For this one evening we moved to the Land of the Cherry Blossom. Visitors had the opportunity to listen to an extraordinary concert of traditional Japanese music, see how the screen printing method works, learn how to fold origami, receive a Japanese fortune teller and directly immerse themselves in the fascinating culture of Japan!

International project "Poland in Pixels"

This summer saw the launch of the first edition of Summer Game Jam: Poland in Pixels, a joint project between Northeastern University and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, with 11 bit studios as patron. Over the course of a month, four teams of mixed student groups created video games that explore Polish identity and culture. Their hard work resulted in the creation of 4 games - Silesia, Oil-city, Panacea: Stone of Wawel and Rusalka. They are available online and were presented at the world's largest game fair, GamesCom 2024 in Cologne.

Orange Polska in PJAIT

Orange Polska is a flagship partner of PJAIT, so our joint initiatives could not be missing from the 2024 summary! In the first half of the year, we were visited periodically by top experts from Orange Polska to share their expert knowledge about artificial intelligence, Big Data, Customer Experience, Cybersphere, Cyber Security, offices of the future and many other intriguing topics with our students as part of the #ConnectFuture campaign.

Orange Poland's support for our students was not limited to workshops. Specialists of this leading technology company took part in the Job Fair PJAIT and organized the Employer Week with Orange at our university. During this event, students had the opportunity to get acquainted with internship offers, talk to recruiters and learn more about the realities of working in the technology industry.

A special reason for pride was the interest of our female students in the Hi-Tech Girls project - a prestigious competition of Orange Poland, which opens doors to careers in the areas of Data&AI, Cloud and Cybersecurity. As many as 20 female students of PJAIT decided to apply, taking advantage of this unique opportunity. We keep our fingers crossed for all the participants!

But that's not all!

At PJAIT , we know how crucial it is to manage skillfully and effectively in achieving the desired goals. The introduction of agile methods into daily work has a huge impact on the functioning of the organization. That is why in September, together with Orange Polska, we organized the ".Agile" conference under the theme "Agile .Culture .People". PJAIT was represented by Marta Godzisz and Piotr Milewski, sharing their experiences and knowledge of agile work methods.

AI Summit PJAIT 2024 Conference

This year also saw the first edition of a conference we organized entirely devoted to AI. Together with experts from various fields, we considered how artificial intelligence affects areas such as law, media, technology, art and medicine. Speakers included Andrzej Dragan (professor of physics at the University of Warsaw and the National University of Singapore), Marcin Ratkiewicz (Director of Orange Innovation Poland), Wojciech Chmielarz (journalist and acclaimed writer) and many other leaders of change and technology. This edition of AI Summit PJAIT was certainly a success, which makes us already looking forward to the next meeting. We look forward to seeing you at AI Summit PJAIT 2025!

College is not just about learning! It's a time when you should definitely try new things and develop your passions. Students of PJAIT rather do not need to be reminded of this - this year they have established as many as 11 new study circles! The thematic range of their activities is really impressive - from music and photography, to video game design and AI enthusiasts, to bioinformatics! This year they started their activities:

Congratulations to all involved and we keep our fingers crossed for the further development of these unique projects!

PJAIT, the meeting place between Poland and Japan

The ongoing nurturing of Polish-Japanese relations is extremely important to us. After all, since its establishment, the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology has been a center promoting cooperation between the two countries. The academy was founded on the basis of an agreement between the governments of Poland and Japan, and for 30 years it has played an important role in building bridges between them.

Therefore, as every year, we had the honor of hosting several distinguished Japanese dignitaries. Each of these meetings contributes to the strengthening of Polish-Japanese relations, it is also an opportunity to meet with students of Japanese Culture and talk about what unites us and what attracts these two distant countries to each other.

At the beginning of 2024, we hosted Ms. Yōko Kamikawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The meeting was largely devoted to the assistance Japan provided to Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees after the outbreak of war. The Minister had the opportunity to meet with trainees of the Data Collection Survey for Ukrainian IT Human Resource Development project, initiated by the Japanese government agency JICA in cooperation with PJAIT. The purpose of the training courses was for Ukrainian refugees to acquire new IT skills that will enable them to find their way in today's job market in Poland.

In July 2024, we hosted Mr. Masahito Moriyama, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. The delegation had the opportunity to learn about our study programs and teaching methods, as well as learn about the international exchanges with Japan offered by PJAIT. It was a unique opportunity for our students from the Department of Japanese Culture to share their experiences of Japanese history and culture.

On September 11, the Vice President of the House of Councillors of the National Assembly of Japan, Mr. Hiroyuki Nagahama and his delegation visited us. The visit began with a courtesy meeting with university authorities, followed by a meeting with students of the Department of Japanese Culture. The visit took place as part of official meetings in Poland. A day earlier, on September 10, 2024, the delegation visited the Senate of the Republic of Poland, where they met with Deputy Speaker of the Senate Rafal Grupinski.

November 2024 officially welcomed the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Akira Kono. Mr. Akira Kono took office as Japan's Ambassador to Poland on October 14, and officially began his activities on October 30, presenting letters of credence to President Andrzej Duda. He succeeded in this position Mr. Akio Miyajima, whom we had the honor of hosting many times within the walls of our Academy. Maintaining positive relations with the Embassy of Japan in Poland is extremely important to us.

Meeting with Japanese writer Toshikazu Kawaguchi

In October we hosted Toshikazu Kawaguchi, the bestselling writer and author of the "Before the coffee cools off" book series, at PJAIT . The room was filled to the brim! The meeting was hosted by Piotr Milewski - writer, journalist, traveler and lecturer PJAIT. After the official part, it was time for book signing and individual meetings with the author. Many of the participants of the event found echoes of their experiences in the reading and decided to share their personal stories and reflections with the author, for which we are extremely grateful.

Signing of an agreement between PASONA Group Inc. and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology

This year has also brought us the establishment of a highly significant partnership with PASONA Group Inc, a Japanese leader in innovative HR solutions and professional development. This strategic partnership opens up new perspectives for students PJAIT, and strengthens ties between the university and Japan.

PASONA Group Inc. is a leading Japanese HR company that has been operating since 1976. It initially pioneered temporary staffing in Japan, quickly establishing itself as a market leader. Today, the company operates not only domestically, but also internationally, supporting companies in business process optimization (BPO). As a company establishing a new quality of work in Japan, it places special emphasis on work-life balance. The partnership with PJAIT fits perfectly with the company's philosophy, representing a significant step toward broadening the Japanese perspective and creating global career opportunities for young talent.

Summary

Summing up the year 2024, we can look back with pride at how much we have achieved together. What has happened is the result of the work, passion and commitment of the entire PJAIT community - students, faculty, doctoral students and staff. We would like to thank everyone who has made their symbolic contribution. We wish you all a successful and rewarding 2025!
