Who is the CHILD?

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw describes it as follows: "In the box, children will find a board with the silhouette of a peasant woman. Her body is a field where new rituals, games and bonds are built, and the bloodstream of our figure is filled with fluids of various activities. Tossing a bag filled with sand, players wander around the board and discover activities, drawings and slogans... while getting to know each other better."

The work was created by Prof. Jasmina Wojcik, a lecturer at the Department of New Media Art PJAIT, as part of the 2nd edition of the Basic Forms project organized by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. In addition to the board, the "Peasants" box also contains a notebook that circulates among the participants of the game. Each of them answers questions in the notebook, such as: "Why do we need friendship?" or "How is a secret created and what can it be?". He then folds the sheet into a triangle and hides his little invented secret there.

Prof. PJAIT Dr. Jasmin Wojcik is a lecturer at the Department of New Media Arts, visual artist, animator of social activities and originator of "Gazeta Dzieci", a magazine created by children. Her work is guided by empathy, attentiveness and a collaborative attitude. In "The Boy", she gives children back their agency, making them active participants in art instead of passive observers. He encourages play, which allows for a deeper understanding of oneself and the surrounding world.

What is the Basic Forms program?

Basic Forms is a cyclical educational program aimed at elementary school students, implemented by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the EFC Foundation. To date, more than 30 artists from around the world have participated. Their works are sent to schools in specially designed boxes, where exhibitions are organized. The selected works become part of the school's scenography or teaching aids, and sometimes even affect changes in school rules, taking the form of actions or performances. The school becomes a museum.

In 2024 field of study the program is reversed - this museum becomes a school. The works of art interpreted by children go into a new "box", which is the new building of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
