Is it possible to predict the future and influence its shape?
Prof. Peter C. Bishop, an American futurologist and expert on future strategies, has been pondering this question. In his lecture "The Future: An Evolution in Thought and Action," he analyzes what influences our perception of the inevitability of history, how change can be shaped, and how to change one's understanding of the future forever.
Prof. Peter C. Bishop is professor emeritus and former director of the Future Studies Program at the University of Houston. In his academic career, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy, mathematics, physics and sociology, and received his doctorate in sociology in 1974. He specializes in long-term forecasting and strategic planning techniques. He is the author of the highly regarded book Thinking about the Future: Guidelines for Strategic Foresight (co-authored with Andy Hines), and has given seminars and speeches for organizations such as IBM, NASA and Nestlé USA.
