Do you need a degree in computer science to start studying Bioinformatics?

The degree program is aimed primarily at people interested in life sciences, with a particular focus on biology, medicine and pharmacy, who wish to gain knowledge and computer competence to solve more advanced problems in the biological sciences. 

Although knowledge of mathematics from a degree in computer science can be an asset for student candidates, as can knowledge of selected programming languages. However, it is not a prerequisite. A degree in Computer Science is not required to enter a postgraduate program in bioinformatics.


If I have difficulty solving tasks, can I get help from a specialist?

Teaching is supported by the instructor subject, a lecturer at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Computer Technology, who monitors the students' implementation of the material.

The facilitator of subject remains available to participants throughout the course. He provides subject matter support and career advice in the field, using email and the Microsoft Teams platform for communication.


Does the study teach practical skills, or does it focus more on theory?

The study teaches both theoretical and practical issues. There are plenty of examples in the prepared materials, in addition, at the end of the course you have to prepare a project, which was prepared to teach real-world problem solving.


What are the prerequisites for graduation?

The prerequisite for graduation is the completion of all subjects specified in the program of study within predefined deadlines.

Each semester ends with an exam, which will be held stationary at the university's headquarters PJAIT in Warsaw.


Do I need my own computer to participate in these studies?

Yes, we recommend that those opting for the described postgraduate studies have access to a computer with at least 8 GB of RAM, an Intel i5 processor or equivalent, and at least 100 GB of free hard drive space.
